Ruahine corner hut

19 November 2016.  Ruahine Corner hut, in the very NW of the Ruahine Ranges, is a special favourite tramping place for me.  It is not easy to get to and usually requires a multi-day tramp to get there.  Today we took part in an organised walk, a fund raiser for Pukeokahu School in the back country behind Taihape.  We stayed at Mangaohane Station on the Napier-Taihape road on the Friday night.  The next day we were taken by a convoy of 4WD vehicles across the station to a point where we had to start walking across the farmland, then the tussock.  It was a three hour walk to the hut.  After lunch we continued on into beautiful forest, mostly mountain cedar, to a viewpoint.  Unfortunately it was very foggy here - no views!  We retraced our steps back to the waiting 4WD's.  Travelling in them added to the adventure too.  A memorable day out.
