7 July 2016 - Our Thursday tramping group was planning to head up to a trig point in the Ruahines, but gale force winds at the car park on the farmland meant a change of plans. As we were already in the Pohangina valley we decided to do some local bush walks here. First the Fern walk (two hours including stops), then the short Kahikatea walk and lunch at Totara Reserve. Sixteen of us today, it was an enjoyable and sociable day with more chatter than usual. It was a reminder of how many large old rata, totara and kahikatea trees can be seen in this valley. They were magnificent.
