Our Discovery Cruise begins - Lake Manapouri and a helicopter ride

13 August 2016: Our Discovery Cruise with Real Journeys begins

First, a one-hour cruise across Lake Manapouri
The mist cleared to reveal wonderful views

We had quite a long wait at West Arm, Lake Manapouri.  Thirty two passengers and five crew, we all had to be helicoptered in small groups to Preservation Inlet.  We enjoyed the sunshine, but not the sandflies.
Owen photographed this tomtit.

Our turn arrives for a stunning 20 minute flight across the vast Fiordland mountains to Preservation Inlet

Approaching Preservation Inlet
It was low tide so we were able to land at a rocky beach at the innermost point of Preservation Inlet - the pilot.

Only a brief stop and our helicopter takes off with out-going passengers back to West Arm
We are taken by tender to the waiting Milford Wanderer
On board the Milford Wanderer
