Day 5: Another day in Dusky Sound

Wednesday 17 August: Our day started with kayaking in Dusky Sound for about 1 1/2 hours.  Conditions were perfect - calm, flat and not cold.

A walk on Resolution Island.  We followed a track up through the bush to an open area with a view.

We scrambled up even higher, off-track, to some rocks for an even better view.

Our Nature Guides, Annette left and Richard right.
Heading back down. Quite a rough track!
We then sailed on to Pickersgill Harbour and Astronomers' Point.
In 1773 Captain Cook had a five week layover here to overhaul his ship, The Resolution,  and re-stock food and water.
At Astronomers" Point a geographic fix was taken to establish longitude at this point.  Note the Survey number 1773.

We took a walk to Lake Forster which Cook and his crew must have visited often.

We then sailed on up cook channel to Supper Cove where we moored for the night.
Dessert!
