Day 7: Cruising in Doubtful Sound on our last day

Friday 19 August:  We set off from our overnight stay in Precipice Cove, Bradshaw Sound.  Doubtful Sound is a huge expanse of water with many "Arms" and "Coves".  We explored Gaer Arm, Crooked Arm as far as Turn Point, Hall Arm, and finally Deep Cove where our cruise finished.

A rare sign of human occupation, "Blanket Bay Hotel" - fishing accommodation located between the high and low tides marks.  This allows them to have this building in Fiordland national Park.

Our route up to lunchtime

We saw many spectacular waterfalls in Doubtful Sound because of its steep walls.  We had not seen waterfalls like this up till our last day.

Our captain nudged our boat within centimetres of the rock face.  One passenger filled a paper cup with water from here!

Another long, slender waterfall.

We saw dolphins more than once on our cruise.

Happy passengers!

Smiling crew

A 3D map on board ship that show the area of Fiordland that we visited.

Each time we left the boat for an expedition we had to take, and later return our key.  Fortunately Owen and I managed to not have the embarrassment forgetting our keys.

Approaching Deep Cove.  A view of Wilmott Pass which we would drive over in a bus that would take us to Lake Manapouri.  The road can be faintly seen on the left hand approach.

Our day's route as we tied up just after 2pm.
