Second time on the Escarpment track

16 June 2016 - Our Thursday tramping group walked the Escarpment track for the first time.  I had previously done it by myself.  Owen came too and there were 17 of us today.  We walked from Paekakariki to Pukerua Bay - a good choice as we had the sun and breeze at our backs.

The highlight for many of us was seeing kohekohe in flower.  This is a winter flowering native.  The flowers emerge out of the tree trunks.  The trees alternate between flowers and fruit capsules each year - we saw both.  The flowers have a very fragrant smell.

We caught a train back from Pukerua Bay to Paekakariki.  The 10km walk took us three hours including several stops along the way.  Photos: Craig, John B and Royce.
