Thursday tramp - Ngatiawa River

11 February 2016 - The Ngatiawa river is in the hills behind Waikanae.  I was the leader on this trip.  I had made a couple of exploration trips in January to try and make an interesting circuit but the terrain and bush were just too difficult and there were not enough track options.  So our large group of 23 trampers just walked up this delightful, easy stream until lunch time and then retraced our steps.  It was a beautiful hot day and some of us managed to find some spots deep enough to get wet in and cool down.  All these photos were taken by other trampers on the day.

Our morning tea stop. This photo is of particular interest - this was the only open space along the stream, and this was the location where a missing mother and daughter were found after becoming lost for four days. They had been walking on the nearby Kapakapanui track, but had taken a wrong turning and eventually ended up in this river.
