Walking Te Araroa with Kylie - to Top Timaru hut

Friday 18 December - we set off from our farmland campsite early, at 7.20am.  It was a pleasant, easy walk through farmland to start with.

 Another small, historic musterers' hut

 The climb steepened and we reached Mt Martha saddle (1680m) at lunchtime.  Incredibly there was a bull dozed track all the way to the top.  That's Mt Aspiring in the distance.

 The bulldozed track continued for a long way down the other side too into the Timaru River valley.

We reached Top Timaru hut just before 4 o'clock.  This is a modern hut built for Te Araroa walkers.
