A hot day in Albuquerque

22 June - our last day in Albuquerque, and it was hot! (101 deg F which is 38 deg C).  Even the locals were complaining.  We headed by bus to the Old Town in the central part of the city.  It was a delightful pedestrian area - Spanish / pueblo mud brick architecture and many small courtyards and patios filled with colourful flowers.  Lots of shops selling Indian crafts and souvenirs, and many cafes.  We staggered around sightseeing, taking many rests in the shade, and drinking lots of water.

Hollyhocks seem to thrive in this hot climate, cactus were growing right next door!

We had lunch at Casa de Ruiz ("Church St Cafe") out the front. Sensible people were eating in the air conditioned rooms inside.  We later discovered that this building was built in the early 1700's and was the oldest residence in Albuquerque.  The interior was certainly worth a look.
