29 June - 2 July: Big Bay was a four hour drive north into the Upper Peninsula of Michigan State, on the shore of Lake Superior. This was as far north as we got in our travels. We were very lucky that Bonnie had some good friends staying in a large holiday house here for an extended family get together. People were coming and going, and beds were available for the three of us for four nights. It was a large wooden house, recently renovated so it felt like new. Our hosts were very welcoming and we had a most enjoyable time together. Our first day there was cold (just 7 deg C), wet and windy, but the house was built for the severe winters of this region and it was warm and cosy. Not a problem to have an indoors day after all our travelling, and the wifi was put to good use!

| Our first day at Big Bay was wet and cold - an indoors one - we just ventured out to the small local shop, and later a trip to the rubbish dump. We did stop to photograph this local attraction, Thunder Bay Inn. It was originally owned by Henry Ford, he and other company executives stayed here. The Inn was also the setting for the film "Anatomy of a Murder" (James Stewart, 1959). |
We enjoyed good dining (and wine) at Big Bay
