Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore

3 July - A cruise to view Pictured Rocks is the big attraction at Munising.  They can only be viewed by boat on Lake Superior.  We booked onto a "Sunset Cruise" starting at 7.30 pm.  Unfortunately it was a rather gloomy evening without sunset colours.  However it was calm and still a great boat trip.  Considering the rather dull light we were pleasantly surprised with our photos.  Owen took most of these.  We returned back to our dock at Munising at 10.10 pm - it was still light!

A historic wooden lighthouse

A lookout for walkers who hike to "Miners' Castle" - you can just see some people

These amazing and varied colours are caused by streaks of mineral stains from groundwater oozing out of cracks in these sandstone rocks

Our captain sailed our quite large ferry right into this gap - we were almost touching the front and sides - only just fitted in - amazing.  He said that "he had never done it before" (yeah right).

Interesting tree roots - just hanging on
